How to Clean Granite Worktops

Granite worktops play an active role in beautifying your kitchen interiors. Though granite worktops are quite popular for most homeowners, many remain concerned about how to take proper care of these worktops so that they last long and you can get the true value for your money.
After conducting massive research, here are some tips about how can take care of your kitchen granite worktops so that they can last year after year. Just read on.
  • Ensure that the Granite Worktops Are Sealed – Granite is pretty much hard surface and is much less porous than marble. Therefore the granite countertops that are weakly sealed or unsealed will soak up the spills, stains or oils. You should leave a few drops of water on the surface for checking whether the granite is sealed. You have got a secure seal if the water droplets bead up. But it’s time for resealing the countertops if the water droplets soak into granite.
  • Remove the Stains Using Baking Soda or Hydrogen Peroxide –For the oil based stains use water and baking soda as a paste. For water-based stains you should go for a paste of hydrogen peroxide and water. You should apply the paste to the stains and use a plastic wrap to cover it and leave like that for 2-3 days. You can tape down the edges. After a few days rinse off the space. If the stain is still there you must rinse off the paste. You can conduct a spot taste for ensuring that the method won’t affect the finish or colour of the stone.
  • Must Not Use Harsh Chemical –Acidic Cleaners like lime, lemon or vinegar, windex or anything with bleach or ammonia should be avoided while cleaning both granite or marble worktop. The frequent use of these chemicals will weaken the sealant used for protecting the granite worktops. You should keep it in mind that the harsher the cleaner, the quicker the sealant will be broken down.
  • Clean Regularly – For maintaining the shine of your granite worktops you should clean regularly with a soft damp cloth. Go for a mild household cleaner and keep at bay the harsh products for best results.
The above are some of the ways in which you can take care of your granite worktops so that they retain their glamour and keep on serving you year after year. Take proper care of your granite websites so that you can get true value for the money that you have invested and make the most of the product.
